At Cathedral Montessori, we participate in, nurture understanding for and celebrate in the global community. We welcome people of different races, cultures, genders, ages, languages, economic and social backgrounds, political and religious beliefs into a safe and respectful environment, enriched by the diversity of its community.
Cathedral Montessori School admits students of any race, color, religious, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to the students at this school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national and ethnic origin, or disability in administration of educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic, and other school-administered programs.
Cathedral Montessori School acknowledges that racism and privilege exist in our own lives, our community, and our society. We are committed to listening, to learning, and to serving as agents for the dismantling of systemic racism. This work is a long journey. We feel fortunate that the Montessori philosophy and the associated school culture at CMS helps to prepare our minds and hearts for this work.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that young children should study the similarities and differences between communities around the globe, to build an early and growing awareness of our diverse, interconnected world. CMS strives to be an intentionally diverse community, comprised of people of different ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, gender identities, family structures, sexual orientations, racial identities, national origins, religions, and abilities. As Dr. Montessori encouraged, we celebrate the ways that our uniqueness and differences enable us to enrich each other’s lives. We actively seek to create an atmosphere of respect and openness through our Grace & Courtesy curriculum, in which every person is recognized and supported.
This moment in our country has caused us to pause, to reflect, to give witness and to act. We feel receptive, but also recognize that no matter how well-intentioned, we may stumble through the hard work ahead. And so, at this time—and all times—please feel free to share your observations and ideas about how we can best live up to our mission and be allies in this movement for change.
