Rebecca Prosino
Head of School
In her career in nonprofit and for-profit institutions of formal and informal education, Rebecca Prosino has been facilitating joyful, hands-on learning for over 20 years. After earning her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford in California in 1997, a stint in the defense industry (with Raytheon at Avondale shipyard in Algiers) convinced her to pursue a career dedicated to educating future generations for peace and critical thinking.
Rebecca earned her Master of Arts in Teaching at Centenary College in Shreveport in 2004 while assisting in a lower elementary classroom at the Montessori School for Shreveport. Once certified she taught Physical Science and Organic Chemistry at a private Catholic high school, Loyola College Prep in Shreveport.
She then pivoted into the nonprofit world, rising through the ranks of leadership at Sci-Port Discovery Center, Louisiana's largest science museum. Rebecca was the project manager for a 25,000-sf space center expansion as Space Center Director, then she was responsible for visitor experience at the entire facility as Director of Education. She hired and trained staff and volunteers, liaised with local school systems, and was responsible for blockbuster traveling exhibitions. Her last role before returning to Montessori education was as Director of Marketing and Strategic Projects, in which she oversaw all the museum’s communications, managed a graphics and social media team, wrote grants, and facilitated a community-wide strategic planning and engagement process.
Rebecca then returned to teaching, and from 2014 to 2019 she took a deep dive into the life-changing philosophy of Maria Montessori. She earned her AMS secondary credential through CMSTEP in Cincinnati while teaching in the middle school at the Montessori School for Shreveport.
In 2019 Rebecca voluntarily relocated to Como, Italy so she and her children could learn the culture and language of Italy. She taught in both the Scuola Montessori di Como and the International School of Como, an IB school in which she was a lab teacher and science coordinator.
Rebecca is an oil painter and an avid hiker; she founded the Lake Como chapter of Urban Sketchers and is fluent in Italian. Now, for familial reasons, Rebecca returns to New Orleans to give her time and talents to Cathedral Montessori School, a true Montessori environment in which she will continue her lifelong mission to ensure children are educated with the respect and love they deserve.
