Greek Language and Cultural Teachings

Greek is taught daily for 25 minutes as part of the regular day at Cathedral Montessori School. Children participate in circle activities in which they sing songs, learn colors, learn numbers, listen to stories and are exposed to greetings of the Greek language.

As part of the cultural exposure, the children visit the church weekly with Father George to discuss qualities of character. Those of Orthodox faith are provided additional time with Father to learn about their faith.

Music Together

Music Together is an internationally recognized program designed to build on a child’s natural enthusiasm and movement. It was founded in 1985 by Ken Guilmartin to expose babies, toddlers and preschoolers to music activities that allow them to enjoy observing, listening and informally playing with the tonal and rhythmic expressions modeled by their elders.

The classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical and that they can learn to sing a tune, keep a beat and participate in confidence with the music of their culture. In order to facilitate adult involvement and to assist the students in participating regularly with the music, each family is provided with a new CD and songbook each semester. The fee for this material in included in the price of the child’s tuition. These materials allow for the parents to engage in the program with their children and for the children to be exposed to the music more than the weekly 45 minute class each week.

Music Together is taught weekly as part of the regular curriculum.

Partnering with Upturn Arts, this weekly program at Cathedral Montessori is a combination of yoga, creative movement and acrobatics that is intended to promote self-confidence, fun, kindness, community and healthy living habits.
